    Description

Rare, vintage collectible piece of the railroad industry.  Includes an intricate and interesting vignette of an old steam locomotive.
Other than a few minor creases, this certificate in near-perfect condition - and was printed by American Bank Note Company.  This is absolutely authentic, NOT a reproduction.  As many of you already know, paper stock certificates have for the most part gone away in favor of electronic 'book-entry' stock ownership.  Physical certificates have become very collectible, and an important part of Wall Street history.
    History:
The Northern Pacific Railroad was chartered by the Federal Government on July 2, 1864, as the first northern transcontinental railroad in the United States.  The federal charter and the completion of its mainline in 1883 were major factors in the opening of the northern tier of the United States.  Operating primarily in the north-central region of the nation, the railroad served a large area, including extensive trackage in Idaho, Minnesota, Montana, North Dakota, Oregon, Washington, and Wisconsin.
